Founding Farmers

Opened in September 2008, Founding Farmers offers farm-inspired American true food and drink in a modern, casual and eco-friendly setting. Located just three blocks West of the White House, Founding Farmers is a very cool farmhouse with old wood, comfortable seating and beautiful community farm tables where family and friends can gather and enjoy a great meal. The restaurant provides homemade and ‘scratch-made’ traditional American classics inspired by the heartland.

Designed by award-winning CORE architecture + design, Founding Farmers has interesting and unique elements in the two story farm house, from the front door to the pastry bar, the mezzanine to the restrooms. During the day sunlight floods the space to reveal subtle features and finishes, and the combination of old and new handcrafted details. At night the restaurant glows with beautiful, ambient lighting and great shadows that create this dynamic space.

Executive Chef
Executive Chef Al Nappo has 23 years of experience and began his career in the restaurant industry at age 14 as a dishwasher at the Tack Room, one of only thirteen 5-star restaurants in the US. Later Chef Nappo was accepted to the Southwestern Chapter of the American Culinary Federation’s training center in Tucson, where he gained valuable hands-on training and instruction that he could translate to restaurants.

After his career took off, Chef Nappo worked in various kitchens in different roles for Tin Star Restaurants, Sam’s Cafés and Austin Grill restaurants, and gained additional mentoring and experience working for Mark Brazinski, the president of the Canyon Café organization and the founder of Pei Wei. The Cheesecake Factory group soon recognized his accomplishments and talents and Chef Nappo was recruited to join the Grand Lux Café in Chicago, where he would eventually manage over 300 staff members and a team of 16 managers. The team lead by Chef Nappo help the restaurant to win the Cheesecake Factory’s 2008 Restaurant of the Year award.
