About
Oildorado Days is a 10 day event celebrating The City of Taft’s birthday. Oildorado Days is dedicated to the hardy men and women who migrated to this dusty southwestern corner of the San Joaquin Valley when oil seeps were detected shortly after the turn of the century.
Oildorado Days features series events including
- Air Exhibition and Fly-In - Take a 20 minutes ride on the B-25 bomber of WWII.
- Art Show
- Bakersfield Symphony - Enjoy a casual concert including performances of Copland's Rodeo, Tumbling Tumbleweeds, Ring of Fire, Cool Water and much more at at the Taft High School Auditorium.
- Oildorado Carnival - Enjoy all of the fun with 11 rides, 10 game booths and lots of your favorite food!
- Car Show - see car, bike and truck at the auto show located on the Oildorado Midway Rails to Trails at 6th Street between Main & Supply Roads.
- Costume Contest - beard contest and pony tail and hair bun contest
- Craft Fair - see handmade art and crafts
- Dominos World Record Attempt - Domino's Pizza in Taft CA will attempt to set the world record for most 12-inch pizzas cooked in 24 hours. The event will start on October 22 at 4p.m. and run until 4p.m. the following day.
- Hot Air Balloon Festival - Sunrise on Saturday, October 16, look to skies and watch for ten colorful balloons as they cruise the skies over Taft for an early morning flight. Later that evening, head over to Rails to Trails and catch the balloons tethered along the walk to form a beautiful Luminaria Glow Display! At sunrise on Sunday morning, October 17, the balloons will be out again for an early morning flight. All flights are subject to weather and wind conditions.
- Maids of Petroleum - The good folks of the town select a handful of lovely maidens called the Maids of Petroleum to be the official royalty of the celebration.
- Melodrama - stage performances at the Taft High Auditorium, 701 Seventh Street.
- Music Concert - live music concerts throughout the festivals
- Oil Industry Trade Fair & John Deere Expo Demo - network event for oil companies, service providers, vendors and others
- Oilfield Skills Competition - backhoe, crane, welding, roustabout competition at east side of cavins on main street.
- Parade - the parade includes a grand marshal, floats, marching units, the Oildorado Queen and Maids of Petroleum, the Posse and Wooden Nickel Gang.
