About

Hanauma Bay is both a Nature Preserve and a Marine Life Conservation District located 10 miles east of Waikiki just off Kalaniana'ole Highway, Route 72. Formed within a volcanic cone, Hanauma Bay is one of the most popular tourist destinations on Oahu Island where many visitors snorkel along the reef to see abundance of sea life including parrotfish and Green sea turtles.

In August 2002 the Marine Education Center was opened at the entrance to Hanauma bay, where new visitors must watch a short film and receive instruction about conservation of the Bay's resources. Today Hanauma Bay sees an average of 3000 visitors a day, or around a million visitors a year.
